Jewellery Classes

Would you like to try your hand at being a jewellery designer, learn to weave wire necklaces or handmake your own silver ring? Eimear runs a number of jewellery making classes throughout the year in the beautiful surroundings of Inistioge in Co Kilkenny, Ireland. On this page you’ll learn a little more about the different courses, book your place (subject to availability, or arrange for a private party or even 1:1 instruction.

Wax Carve a Silver Ring

Join Eimear’s jewellery-making class and learn the ancient art of lost wax casting. Under her guidance, you will design your ring and then sculpt it using jeweller’s wax, which will be cast into sterling silver.
No experience is required as with Eimear will guide you through the fundamentals of designing, sculpting and texturing your masterpiece in wax. Classes are small, limited to six participants (minimum 4), and each participant will have their own set of tools to use on the day.
At the end of the workshop, you will have a wax ‘master’ that Eimear will send to a professional caster to be cast in recycled sterling silver. She will then hand finish your piece according to your specifications and post it back to you in a beautiful gift-wrapped box within 3/4 weeks max.
You can also choose to cast your ring in gold at an additional cost, and have it set with gemstones, also at an additional cost; these extras can be discussed with Eimear on the day.
The workshop starts at 11.30 am and during the morning sessions you will explore the tools and how to use them as well as designs for your ring. There'll be a break for lunch from 12.30 - 1pm, and during the afternoon session (1 - 3.30pm) you will make your ring!
The total cost for the day is €165 per person, which includes all materials, tuition and lunch, as well as casting your piece in recycled sterling silver, finishing, polishing, a beautiful jewellery box, and return postage.
This is a wonderful opportunity to create a precious treasure that is entirely unique to you, whether you decide to keep it or gift it to a deserving loved one.

Viking Knit Wire Weaving

'Viking knit' weaving is a very satisfying and historic technique producing a strong, hand-woven, flexible chain that can be used for bracelets and necklaces for men and women. The beauty of this technique is that you don't need any previous jewellery making, or even crafting experience. You also don't need to bring any tools or materials. And if you want to continue making Viking knit jewellery, the equipment costs are quite affordable – Eimear can tell you more on the day.
All of the participants will leave the workshop with at least one finished piece of jewellery, and hopefully a few new friends. You'll get lots of hands-on help from Eimear as well as printed step-by-step instructions in this fun and relaxed three-hour workshop.
Classes are usually held in the afternoon (2 - 5pm); tea/coffee and snacks will be served. Classes cost €55 per person, and are limited to ten participants.
